Maezumi Roshi said, "In the beginners mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's few."
Why I Practice
A man on the train nods off using my shoulder as a pillow. Where do I begin and end? My body softens. Closer now, I match my breathing to his. Happy, and I know this too shall pass - Keely Garfield
Yoga prepares me for, and sustains my work in the world beyond the mat and the studio. Serving in Haiti at a pediatric hospital and orphanage, working with oncology patients in hospice, tending to the nerves of young dancers, silently retreating to the woods with my yoga students, being with my family, friends, being with myself, being with stillness and not knowing, are all manifestations of practice.
Why I Teach
A teacher teaches what they need to know for this I am grateful to all of my students for their presence, patience, and passion!
