I can hardly believe it’s been almost 20 years since I took my 200-hour teacher training at YogaWorks. The time has flown by. Sure, I’ve fallen in love, gotten married, had a child and taught thousands of yoga classes since then. And time probably flies by because I’m doing something I enjoy so much, and because being a yoga teacher allows me to continue growing and learning and to always remain a yoga student.
It’s turned out to be such a perfect path for me – I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else. Ironically, when I took the training in my twenties, not long after finishing college, I had no intention of becoming a yoga teacher. I just wanted to learn more about the practice that was such an important part of my life. I still tell people that’s a great reason to take the training.
During the training we explore and refine the asana practice, working closely with students to address specific needs. We go further into the philosophy, history and anatomy of yoga than we ever could in the limited time frame of regular group classes. There is time to answer questions, time to address individual issues, and time to discover some of the less commonly taught aspects of Yoga. It’s impossible to go through the training and not deepen your practice. Everyone comes out the other side a better student than they went in, and many, as I did, go on to apply their new knowledge to become teachers.
I learned so much in my YogaWorks teacher training and I continue to learn from the wonderful students I now get to teach in the training. This is my tenth year as a teacher trainer, and as we have continued to refine and improve the program year after year, I feel confident that it’s the most comprehensive and practical 200-hour training available.
