Kundalini: The Yoga of Awareness

MSH_2878 copyHumphrey_XperienceFactory 310.488.5444If you are a practicing yogi you may have heard of Kundalini Yoga. You may have gathered that it has something to do with a “serpent” energy and it’s possible that someone has told you a story that scared you from trying it. I would love to set the record straight. Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a fast and powerful tool to change your life. Yoga has been around for thousands of years, but for most of that time it was kept a secret in the mountains of India. The yogis weren’t just trying to protect a form of exercise; they were protecting a powerful tool for self-mastery.

Kundalini is an energy the yogis tried to keep secret. It is a natural energy that exists in all of us. The way Yogi Bhajan taught us to practice is a quick science to unlock the energy within, so that we can experience our full potential!

Yogi Bhajan said it best: “Yoga is the science of self, and Kundalini is the awakening of self, it is that simple.”

What is your full potential? It is hard to know when we live in a world that is moving so fast. We have stress, anxiety, pain, sleeplessness, depression and so many challenges that it is hard to truly know ourselves sometimes. Kundalini helps us break through the barriers and get out of our own way. It is a yoga for people who are ready to take radical responsibility for their lives. It clears the fog in our minds and allows us to experience our own light, and in turn see the light of others.

One of my dear friends who has become a teacher through her own journey shared her experience so beautifully. Dr. Azita Nahai said: “Teacher Training is one of the greatest gifts you will ever give yourself. This ancient science and teachings saved my life by teaching me how to consciously reclaim my life. Yogi Bhajan called Kundalini Yoga the Yoga of Awareness. I call it the Yoga of The Lost and Found. We all lose ourselves. This teacher training will help you find yourself.”

Gurmukh and Gurushabd are some of the leading Kundalini Yoga teachers in the world. They travel the planet with the mission to serve as many as possible. They both studied under Yogi Bhajan for over 3o years and have dedicated their lives to these teachings. Legacy teachers are hard to come by, if you have the opportunity to study with them I suggest you take it.

If you are looking for a life-changing gift to give yourself, this training is it. You will awaken a deep wisdom from within. That wisdom will become your guide in life. As Kundalini yogis, we tune in to every class with a mantra “Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo.” Translating to “I bow to the Divine teacher within me.” We set the intention to reconnect to the inner teacher in every class.

I leave you with this… If you are looking for a shift in your life and want something that only relies on YOU, then Kundalini Yoga is the answer.

Oh, and one last thing, we have a lot of FUN in the process of learning and growing. I like to think of Kundalini yogis as the rock stars of yoga. We live outside the box, we do not care about the status quo, and we love what we do!
