Satya Workshop with John Cancro
by Radical Change Agent
Join John Cancro in this 2 hour and 15 minute workshop.
In a totally unique way, SATYA practice opens doorways into the interior, providing new pathways of perception and feeling. It guides students away from “doing” movement and toward sensing, receiving and “being” movement. As an adjunct to yoga practice, somatic awareness leads to embodied wisdom.
Location: YogaOne Heights
Date & Time: Saturday, May 12th 1:15pm-3:30pm
Teacher: John Cancro
SATYA is Prajna Yoga’s “yin” style practice. All the movements are done on the floor in a flowing fashion, without force. The SATYA movements cultivate inner listening and heighten proprioceptive awareness. Our aim is to counter “sensory-motor amnesia” and to gain awareness in places where there has been numbing or freezing. This awareness is the body’s innate intelligence. By increasing our capacity for sensory awareness, we become more sentient, wakeful beings in the world.
By training in the field of our sensory-motor system and by listening and developing a more receptive mind, we tap into the body-mind’s innate intelligence and capacity to heal. The exercises are non-weight bearing and involve sliding, gliding and circular movements to reduce myo-fascial holding in the body. The exercises help mobilize the joints, remove fatigue from the body, balance asymmetries and align the right and left sides of the body. The SATYA training, along with yoga postures, involves neural-muscular re-education. Like in vinyasa training, breath is combined with movement in order to deepen the respiratory rhythm. All movements support profound physical rest of the body and prepare for savasana and yoga nidra (the yogic sleep).

Carson Calhoun: Arm Balances & Transitions
by Carson Calhoun
In this workshop, we will cover the basics of balancing on your arms and transitioning from pose to pose. The focus will be on developing the fundamentals to safely and confidently practice crow pose, headstands, and handstands.
We'll start by building a solid foundation, learning how to be lighter and float through sun salutations. From there, it's on to the arm balances. We'll tackle crow pose and all of its cousins. Students will learn to safely enter, exit, and transition from pose to pose, and will certainly learn a new trick or two.
After years of encouragement from his mother, Carson began practicing yoga in 2010. He did his first 200-hour teacher training in 2011 at Little River Yoga and has since studied Ashtanga Yoga with David B. Keil and Rocket Yoga with David C. Kyle. As a movement enthusiast Carson incorporates a variety of disciplines into his yoga classes, which focus on building a strong mind and body.
