My inspiration to study and to teach yoga goes all the way back to my childhood. In a small South Texas town, I was surrounded by powerful Chicana women. This was the beginning of my journey, my neighborhood. They all helped each other in the manner that utilized their own strength and beauty. I admired every one of them because I could count on them for food, shelter, advice, and guidance. I then grew up and moved away, but I never forgot them. I am now in my 50s. I want to share a part of myself like those inspiring women who helped me grow and become strong. Yoga is my strength, and I am here to share this with the world.
Why I Practice
I practice yoga to “BE”. My practice allows me to BE a better woman for those I interact with on a daily basis. Through breath I am able to BE still enough to pause and make better choices for myself. To practice is to BE aware of what my body can do. To BE strong involves every part of me.
Why I Teach
I teach yoga as a vessel to bring yoga to everyBODY. Teaching yoga has provided me with an opportunity to learn about myself and from everyone that I interact with. The work is in listening to the life lesson, internalizing it, and teaching this to others. My own personal journey has been a series of lessons that have brought me to who I am today. This knowledge enables me to be a better teacher of yoga.
